Heald Green is a ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport. Heald Green is in the parliamentary constituency of Cheadle. The village was in the county of Cheshire until 1974, when Stockport became a part of Greater Manchester. It has a station, some shops, some pubs, a football team, an active community life, a library, several churches, and more. One of the oldest pubs in the UK can be found in Heald Green on the corner of Finney Lane and has been serving customers since 1723[citation needed]. To the west is Wythenshawe, with a large bus hub and shopping centre, and Manchester Airport. To the east are several large stores at the outskirts of Manchester. There are also several business parks with many well known companies in the surrounding area. Famous residents include Former England and Lancashire cricket Johnny Briggs, Sarah Harding from Girl's Aloud, Coronation Street's Simon Gregson, and 90s band Northern Uproar.
